I am an enthusiastic teacher who loves to support, challenge and break glass ceilings with the young people I teach. I have tutored for several years now and I love watching a young person’s confidence grow in English. My fondest memory will always be a young person communicating his dislike and frustration about writing paragraphs to then asking me if he could take a picture to show his mum of the PARAGRAPHS he had written! This was a VERY proud moment and I was honoured the young person shared that with me!
Nothing beats the look of pride that spreads across a young person’s face when I help bring out the confidence in their own skills.
I have taught in many schools across the country, ranging from: Private, Grammar and Secondary Comprehensive schools. Through my years of experience, I've seen how a school functions as a permanent member of staff and as a supply teacher, this has meant I have seen the way many different schools track and encourage progress. This has allowed me to help students make quicker progress in a short space of time. I can’t help but share my passion for language with the young people I teach, be it in a classroom, 1-2-1 or a small online group session. My quirky sense of humour, friendly approach and ‘out-of-the-box’ methods helps me easily chunk down information and make it accessible and relatable to the young people I teach.
After moving across the country, I realised there was a pattern with the skills students lacked, regardless of ability. This prompted me to create worksheets with more focused questions and examples which have been tested with different cohorts across the UK. What was their feedback? The results each time were: the students found them challenging, liked that they were being pushed and were able to deepen their understanding of close-reading skills. Since becoming a parent, my view on teaching has changed and I have more of a passion to keep improving my knowledge to help all those key players who help a young person make progress.
I have since worked with many different tutoring companies, both internationally and within the UK. I’ve been an examiner and have created exam papers. In addition to this I have also completed many courses to enhance my own knowledge of how a learner learns to read and write, deepened my knowledge of SEN and published books to help empower and enhance skills to create independent learners.
